WHOOT! The release day of Tall, Dark 'n' Texan + Excerpt

I'm over the moon to announce the release day of :
Tall, Dark 'n' Texan.

The thrilling adventure of a girl, a hurricane, and a sexy Texas cowboy (Texas Billionaire Brothers Book 1)

When a handsome cowboy rescues Susan Blake from drowning, her life changes forever.
Branch Durham, a tall, sexy, Texas cowboy is way out of her league, but when he invites her to lunch, she jumps at the chance of getting to know him better, but a hurricane is approaching fast. With every exit road blocked, she takes Branch up on his offer of a safe haven to ride out the storm.
The woman Branch found on the beach intrigues him. Susie is fiercely independent, a little clumsy, and naïve, but she has no idea he is a Country and Western megastar with a ranch and oil fields in Texas. Being with her is refreshing, and for once, he can be himself without perpetuating his bad boy image.
As the hurricane intensifies turning the area into Armageddon, Susie’s dream of a new career managing her father’s condominium complex is shattered. She realizes she has no place to go and her future has blown away with the building.
With communication non-existent and only an old Indian motorcycle for transport, Branch must face danger to get her to safety then convince her to go with him to his ranch in Texas. He might save Susie but when she discovers his true identity, will he lose the love he has searched for all his life?

Excerpt
“I’m here at last.” Susan Blake squeezed her toes into the sand and stared out across the sparkling ocean. Her attention caught by a single surfer sliding down an impressive swell. Hmm, those waves didn’t look quite so big in the brochure.
The local news channel had given ominous warnings of a hurricane approaching the area, but apart from a line of dark clouds on the horizon, the sun shone in an expanse of blue sky. The danger appeared to be miles away and ignoring the little voice inside her head screaming, “Danger” she stepped into the foaming water. Swimming in the rough sea would be fine if she kept to the shore break. She refused to allow anything to spoil her day and splashed into the surf. What could possibly go wrong?
Chilled water hit hot flesh, and she gasped catching her breath. Undeterred she waded in waist deep, jumping the waves crashing around her. The next surge ripped her off her feet and exhilaration turned to dread in a millisecond. She fought the rip, but Neptune’s arms reached out to seize her. Ferocious waves dragged her out to sea crashing over her and filling her mouth with salty brine. Eyes stinging and thrashing like a woman possessed, she bobbed up between waves choking and stared around to get her bearings. Oh, shit! Endless rolling ocean met her gaze and then as the swell lifted her, she caught sight of the beach for a split second before a wall of water hid the coastline from view.
Terrified, she caught the next wave but rather than taking her toward the beach, it carried her out to sea. Fighting against the swell was useless. With each stroke forward, the ocean dragged her deeper into its inky depths. Desperate to keep her head above water, she kicked hard and aimed for the shore, but the strong undercurrent swirled around her dragging her down like quicksand.
In a tremendous roar, another wall of water crashed over her. Helpless against the massive strength dragging her into a swirling mass of choking oblivion, she tumbled arms flailing. Her head struck the sandy bottom. Sharp pain radiated through one temple and bubbles rushed past her eyes spilling precious oxygen from her mouth. Unlike the stories of people drowning at sea, her life did not flash before her eyes, and she had no pangs of regret for a life lost. Instead, a calm descended on her and time slowed. I’m drowning.
Above, the once picture-perfect sunny day offered intermittent peaks of light through the swirling sea. Hopes of starting a new life in Florida crowded her mind. Anger flashed, and she would be damned if she would give up and become another statistic. Determination sent a rush of adrenaline flooding through her. Get your act together, Miss Blake, you did not come this far to die. Lungs bursting, she pushed straining muscles to the limit to break free of the current and popped up like a cork in the surf. Dragging in great gulps of air, she caught a wave and swum for the beach. Water smashed her dragging her back again. Thinking all was lost, she bobbed helplessly on the surface and then with another loud roar, the merciless sea picked her up and dumped her on the beach. Disorientated, she forced aching limbs to drag her from the water but another wave wrapped like a whip around her legs and she slid helplessly along the shore break.
Grabbing at anything for a handhold, she dug her fingers into the sand. The beach blurred before her and eyes stinging, she blinked wildly at the shadowy figure looming in front of her. Sliding between a pair of long legs, she looped her arms around one muscular calf clinging for dear life. The stranger gripped her arms in his strong hands and lifted her to her feet. Gasping and weak with shock, she stared through a veil of wet hair into the face of the most delicious man she had ever seen in her life. Deep blue eyes shaded by a black Stetson examined her face. I’m dead and in the arms of a dark angel. Oh, shit, do fallen angels wear black cowboy hats? I might have guessed I would go straight to hell and not pass go. She turned her head and coughed, spluttering out a mouthful of salt water. When a deep Texan drawl poured over her like warm honey, her knees buckled in relief.
“Hello, darlin’. Don’t worry, I have you.”
Oh, my God, he’s real

Release day: Nox by H.C. Brown - Excerpt and links

NOX
Pride Brothers 9
H.C. Brown

A hilarious and heart-warming romp filled with magic and true romance.

After the Lady sends Nox to rescue a female destined to be his mate from the forbidden realm of Anina, Nox wonders if the creature is a baby Swamp Troll. The unusual being, covered in slime and hurling obscenities at him and Allure the Fair turns out to be NYC Detective Sky Barrymore.
Faced with the challenge to romance the angry spitfire, Nox and Allure must forget magyck and rely on their charm to win her love or lose the chance of having a life mate forever.

Reader Advisory: This Paranormal Romance contains a feisty New York Detective trapped in a strange world with two deliciously wicked Fae, intent on luring her into their bed.

Excerpt:
Sitting in the forest to trap a Troll or a Time Nymph was not Nox's idea of a perfect way to find a mate. In fact, this female could be a diversion. Rules of magyck did not apply in a forbidden realm, where the gods placed all the strange beings incapable of following rules. Never mind, he had faith the Lady would guide his hand soon enough. He had waited four hundred summers, so what was another few hours or weeks. At home in Other World, he had much to occupy his days and nights. He smiled thinking of the males he planned to invite for a weekend of unbridled lust.
“Get your mind on the job at hand.” Allure’s voice stirred in his head. “And, remember. Do not use magyck in her presence. I fear she will go quite mad again.”
Nox chuckled. I am dressed as a Nomag to soothe her mind. I am hardly going to spread my wings and fly away now, am I?
Leaves rustled and branches cracked. Nox lifted his attention to the edge of the clearing. His muscles tensed in anticipation. One hand went to the knife in his belt. Without magyck, he would at least have to act like a Nomag in her presence. His eyes widened in disbelief. The creature staggering out of the forest was no female. He flared his nostrils then sucked in air to catch a whiff of the beast’s scent. Gods, she had come from the bowels of hell. Rank, putrid odors accosted his nose, and his stomach rolled. He sniffed again recognizing the smell of the creature crashing toward him. Allure, is that what attacked you? That is not a Time Nymph, that my friend is an infant Bog Troll.
“Hmm, she does look much smaller than I recall. She is female by the size of her breasts but very small for a Troll. Mayhap she was abandoned by her tribe?”
Nox examined the Troll with interest. Adorned with a liberal smearing of mud, its hair stood out from a pink and red spotted face. Green eyes flashed, and the angry little thing barred its teeth at him. His gaze traveled down the filthy slime covered body to shapely legs with the most amazing irregular shaped pale spots. He could not remember seeing a Troll with such dainty feet or red toenails. Allure, you did not mention she was one of the spotted variety. I believe they are quite rare.
“I did not notice her spots. I was too busy ducking her attack. She is the ugliest creature I have ever seen, even for a Bog Troll.”
She carries a foul odor and getting close is going to be difficult, I can feel her agitation. Nox chanced a glance up at Allure. What do you suggest?
“Feed her but not the hot chicken. Trolls are very partial to ham.”
Nox reached into the saddlebags and cast a spell to produce a small leg of ham. He waved the meat at the female and spoke in Trollonese. “Come here, little one. I will not hurt you. Have you lost your mother?”
A croaky voice came from the creature in a gasp. “I don’t understand a word you’re saying. Do you speak English?”
Nox blinked. English? The words he recognized as Nomag speech although somewhat different. He dropped the ham into his saddlebag and inclined his head. “Aye. It would seem I do.”
The Troll remained some distance away, her gaze darting from one place to the next as if assessing a suitable escape route. The smell of stagnant water wafted toward him and he wrinkled his nose in disgust. He caught a glimpse of annoyance in her eyes and forced a smile. “Have you lost your mother?”
“My mother? Have you lost your frickin’ mind?” She stomped toward him. “Cut the crap and tell me where I am. I’m a police officer.” She poked one finger on a metal brooch on her belt as if it should impress him of her status. “Detective Barrymore LAPD.”

Patience: An author's best friend.

Patience as a author is one of the things many authors find the hardest. Okay, so you have written a story, polished it within an inch of its life then found a publisher who actually publishes the genre.
You have followed the submission guidelines and what happens next?

1. You receive a rejection within a few days.
2. You hear nothing for about three months and a rejection.
3. You hear nothing for three months maybe four then received a request for the full.
4. Six months goes by and you hear nothing at all....usually time to try a different publisher.

About this time, you experience, worry, anxiousness, and feelings of self-doubt.
THIS IS NORMAL.

Try not to worry and rather use writing another story as a distraction and soon you will have three or more stories all waiting for a lovely publisher to make an offer.

The same goes with agents. Many never contact you, most have a secretary to send a form rejection.

The moral to my story is, keep trying. Very few authors are published, fewer have agents. Some hit gold with their first book, others take time to perfect their craft.

It is pointless looking at other author's success and wishing you had the same "luck". Yes, people can be in the right place at the right time, be the first to have a unique idea for a story but that doesn't make them any better than you.
Keep writing because you want to tell a story. Enjoy what you are doing, learn your craft because no matter what, learning the basics is crucial to success.
Most of all.
Never Give Up.

Welcome L.M. Somerton- Tales From The Edge Series Blast +PRIZES !!!

New beginnings
There’s a line in a song by rock band The Editors, “Some things should be simple; even an end has a start”, which has resonated with me recently as I come to the end of a book series. Tales from The Edge consists of eight books and four free short stories and began almost four years ago with Reaching The Edge. The main characters, Olly and Joe, have inhabited my head ever since and letting go has proved anything but simple. I wish they were real – they’d make really good friends and I think a night out with them might be an adventure!
I didn’t want to write a never-ending series where readers forget what the whole premise was about and characters become formulaic caricatures. That’s boring for the reader and the writer. But, I never imagined how involved readers would become with the fictional lives of a group of kinky, loving men who overcome their problems with the help of friendship, perseverance and a healthy dose of snark.
Whilst writing Tales from The Edge, I frequently found myself accidentally creating characters with the potential for stories of their own, so I may have to indulge in a few more short freebies when the urge takes me! In the meantime, the final book in the series sows the seed for a new set of stories I’ll also be starting this year. So the end really is a start. Thanks so much for hosting me. xx

To celebrate the final book in the series, you can enter a Rafflecopter prize draw here. Five lucky winners will receive an ebook of their choice from my back list. (Draw open Jan 10 – Jan 31 2017)

A Double-Edged Sword
“This pair have love, respect and honesty to help them through and ‘contract’ their new relationship. The story was real, the secondary characters important and the sex was sizzling!"  Prism Book Alliance

Reaching the Edge

 Series Blurb
The Edge is a training company with a difference. It’s weekend clients come for classes in bondage and domination, not team building and problem solving. The management, staff and customers of The Edge do not lead boring lives. In fact they have a habit of getting themselves into all kinds of trouble. Put dominant, possessive alpha males together with bratty, loveable submissives and sparks are bound to fly. Tales from The Edge are their stories.

Blurb for Binding the Edges (Book #8 in the series)
Never let go of the one you love.
After recent traumatic events, Olly is finding it hard to get his head around what happened. While he tries to deal with a maelstrom of emotions, renovations at The Edge are in full flow, alongside preparations for tenth anniversary celebrations. Joe, his Dom, recognizes Olly’s delicate state of mind and does his best to reassure him. A trip to the New Forest with their friends, Aiden and Heath, helps the healing process.
Returning home, Olly and Aiden focus on preparations for the party. When Aiden is called away, Olly takes a walk to clear his head, keeping his eye on a brewing storm. To his horror, he discovers Mark Vickery, an old enemy, has landed on the island by boat and is out for revenge.
With Olly missing and the storm raging, Joe, Heath and Aiden set out on a rescue mission that unfolds in a way none of them expected. Can the storm wash away the past or will Olly and Joe’s future be destroyed by a twist of fate?

Excerpt from Binding the Edges

Olly tilted his head back to get a proper look at Joe’s face. Joe’s expression gave no indication of remorse or guilt, just his usual serene certainty that everything was under control. His control. He pressed a finger against Olly’s lips preventing him from forming them into a pout.
“Who knows what’s best for you, sweetheart?”
Olly ducked his head, escaping Joe’s finger. “You do, Sir.” In Olly’s mind, nothing was more certain. Joe only ever acted in Olly’s best interest, even to his own detriment. “But you don’t have to worry about me.”
“That’s for me to decide, Oliver. After everything you’ve been through recently I didn’t want you to be on your own.”
“Because you’re a psychologist and you were analyzing me?” Olly asked.
“No, because you needed a friend. I know what you’d do if you had too much time on your own to think. You’d mull over every detail of what happened and start to blame yourself, wish you’d handled things differently. Then you’d start worrying about all the what ifs with that creative imagination of yours, and end up having nightmares for weeks.”
“You know me too well, Sir.” Olly nuzzled against Joe’s chest, absorbing his warmth.
“I have better things to do with you in bed than watch you toss and turn in your sleep.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“So no sulking with Aiden. He’s a good friend.”
“The best. Now I understand why he didn’t run away when I interrogated him about what he and Heath got up to last night. I think you did me a favor, Sir.”
“That grin is far too wicked. I suspect you need to be punished.” “Ooh, yes please!”
“But you have packing to finish because we need to get on the road if we’re going to make it to Hampshire in time for dinner.”
“You’re no fun, Sir.” Olly was torn between wanting to play with Joe and his curiosity about their destination. He would also get to see Carey and Alistair. Maybe some of his other friends, too. “What do you want me to take?”
Joe gave him a curious glance. The press of Joe’s fingers under his chin tilted Olly’s head back. “This isn’t like you. Usually you’d have two enormous suitcases stuffed to bursting by now. What’s going on?”
“Sorry, Sir.” Tears that seemed to come all too quickly stung Olly’s eyes.
“Hey, now. None of that.” Joe kissed away a tear. “Are you having a tough time making decisions at the moment?”
Olly nodded. He worried that if he spoke he’d have a full-on nuclear meltdown. “Well, it’s a good job you have me, isn’t it?”
Olly bobbed his head, feeling a bit like a nodding dog toy. His head felt too heavy for his neck and a wave of exhaustion washed over him. He wanted to grab a pillow, one that smelled of Joe, hug it tight and drift off to sleep.
